Descripción

We visit Malinalco which is one of the towns in central Mexico with the most historical and symbolic richness. Its name comes from náhuatl Malinalxóchitl, which is associated to deity of sorcery and natural powers sister of god of war for the Mexica.
During pre-Hispanic times Malinalco was an important ceremonial center of the mexica. Here we find Cuauhtinchan a monolith carved directly on the rock. Here is where the Aztec warriors of elite did the rituals of initiation. at the interior you will se carvings of eagles and jaguars, symbols of the militar power of the Mexica
We also visit the Augustinian ex-convent of the transfiguration. After the Spanish conquest Malinalco was transformed by the Augustinian fryers. The ex-convent was built in 1540 and is one of the most outstanding colonial architectures of the early XVI century.
Here we are going to see some of the oldest murals of this kind in the continental America. We´ll see representations of flora and fauna and symbolic elements that combine indigenous and European traditions. They represent the evangelization process and the syncretism of this two cultures.
